Some of the events which took place in 2014 and beyond are listed below. This page will be updated and fully integrated with the History pages, and hopefully brought up to date in the near future.
On the second Sunday in September, we sang once more at the Anniversary Service for the New Bible Class at Dixon’s Green Methodist Church. This is our regular annual appearance in what originated as the Vicar Street (Methodist Church) Bible Class - a class inaugurated by our former Choir President, Bert Bissell
We performed in a charity event, as part of a full evenings entertainment which included two young female singers and a comedian.
The event., which was to raise funds for an educational trust was held in front of a packed house at the Gornal Royal British Legion Club. On this occasion , the majority of our audience had previously not been to one our concerts - so it was a good opportunity for us to recruit some more “male voice choir groupies”.
On a hot evening early in July, we performed in a fund raising concert at Gig Mill Methodist Church, Stourbridge. The concert, in aid of Parkinsons UK and church funds was very well attended, and raised a record sum. We were delighted to welcome two young gentlemen, Tom and Dan Jones, who performed a number of 1960’s / 1970’s popular classics - vocally, with backing tracks, and with their own piano and percussion accompaniments - we are certain that we’ll see more of these youngsters in the future.
On the following Friday - yet another very hot evening - we sang to a full house at Wollaston Free Church, less than a mile away from Gig mill. On this occasion there were about 400 people in the audience, and in addition to some of our own soloists, we were entertained by a group of musicians from Romania who are currently staying in the area and worshiping at the church.
June was Bostin
During June, we sang at a wedding at St Mary’s Church, Kingswinford
Just over a week later, we joined with the member choirs of the English Association of Male Voice Choirs in the Association’s annual charity concert - which this year was hosted by our “choral neighbours”, Cradley Heath Male Voice Choir, and was held at Brierley Hill Civic Hall. Over 200 members from 8 of the Association’s member choirs were packed onto (and in front of) the stage, and with the assistance of some solo artists, performed to a very warm audience on a very warm evening.
At the end of May, Vice Chairman, Pete Hawthorne, attended the Mayor’s Parlour with a few of our choristers to present a cheque for £3,500 to the outgoing mayor, Councillor Alan Finch - this money was raised during 2013 as our contribution to the Mayor’s Charity Fund.
We joined The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Alan Finch to announce the launch of the Mayor’s Awards Contest for 2014. Pictured are Chairman, Keith Moss and Vice-Chairman, Pete Hawthorne with the Mayor, and the award which was presented to the Gentlemen Songsters in the same competition in 2013
We were also pleased to be joined by the Mayor on the occasion when we presented a cheque for £2500 to the Royal British Legion - the proceeds of the Festival of Remembrance, held in November 2013
