1957 "The Wall Heath Male Voice Choir" was founded in May 1957 with nine members, Harry Ord as Conductor, and Ralph Brookes as Accompanist. At Christmas, the choir held its first Carol Concert in aid of charity - raising just over £20.
We regularly raise approaching £4,000 for local charities at the same event now.
The picture below, which came into our possession recently courtesy of former member John Trafford, was taken in late 1957.
Our research to date has named the members as follows:
Back Row: Don Marsh, Harry Round, John Trafford, Noel Lee, unknown?, Fred Abbiss, Dennis Lord
Middle Row: Bert Hough, Malcolm Mees, Alan Hough, David Lloyd-George, Harold Ashman, Les Lester, Jack Lawley, Alex Payton
Front Row: Tom Simmons, Stan Murray, Frank Painter, Joe Pioli, John Millward, Harry Ord (Conductor), Ralph Brooks (Accompanist), Bill Astley, Fred Trafford
If anyone can help identify the remaining member in the back row, we would be most grateful
1958 The choir made its first appearance in the school hall at King Edward VI School, Stourbridge.
1959 Tom Simmons was appointed as Deputy Conductor.
